June 12, 2007

Ralph Blauel and Kiron Bondale will discuss some best practices and present a case study for managing and prioritizing projects more effectively.

During MISA 2007 Ralph Blauel, Director of IT for The Regional Municipality of Halton and Kiron Bondale, PMP, Manager of Client Services for Solution Q Inc. will discuss some best practices and present a case study for managing and prioritizing projects more effectively.

With limited resources, organizations need to meet two critical success factors in order to achieve strategic objectives: doing the right projects and doing projects right.

Doing the right projects is facilitated through project portfolio management which enables organizations to:

  • Maximize the aggregate value of projects
  • Ensure that projects are aligned with strategic objectives
  • Optimize resource utilization

Doing projects right, is dependent on an organization’s ability to achieve an appropriate level of project delivery maturity.

Kiron Bondale will discuss Project Portfolio Management best practices that can help municipal organizations.

Ralph will deliver a case study focusing on how The Regional Municipality of Halton has implemented a project selection and prioritization framework that balances competing demands for IT resources. The prioritization framework balances strategic alignment, economic value and business impact. Municipalities are under pressure to do more with less, which makes it critical to have the right mix of projects in a portfolio.
